il lumedeltempo

The Illumedeltempo lecture, which will take place on 1 February at the Palladian Basilica in Vicenza, addresses the theme of light as a primary design material and as a critical tool for understanding and transforming architectural and artistic space. Through a historical and conceptual reading, the meeting analyses the evolution of natural and artificial light, from the Renaissance to contemporary technologies, highlighting the role of light in the construction of perception, time and spatial narration.
Speakers include Maestro Marionanni, writer of light and director of the Marionannischolé, Bruno Haas, philosopher and art historian at the Sorbonne University in Paris, and Franz Engel, philosopher and art historian at Humboldt University in Berlin.
During the lecture, Marionanni's eight plus one rules for writing light will be presented, understood as an open system of principles of artificial light in continuous dialogue with natural light. On this theoretical basis, significant case studies will be analysed, including the Arte nel tempo della luce (Art in the Time of Light) project and the lighting design for the Olimpichett, now on display in the Palladian Basilica in Vicenza, as examples of conscious intervention in complex cultural and monumental contexts.

The conference offers an interdisciplinary approach that combines architecture, art history and philosophy, providing participants with critical and practical tools for ethical, responsible and culturally grounded lighting design.
